Albert J. Ellis Airport is a county-owned public-use airport in Onslow County, North Carolina, United States.〔 It is located in Richlands,〔 10 nautical miles (19 km) northwest of the central business district of Jacksonville and Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.〔 The airport has a single runway and three gates. Opening on February 15, 1971, the airport is used by general aviation, military and is served by two commercial airlines, Delta Connection, and American Eagle.〔OAJ Airport Director〕 On August 30, 2006, Delta Air Lines announced new service from the airport to Atlanta, operated by Delta Connection carrier Express Jet Airlines, starting on December 11, 2006. Delta Connection operated by ExpressJet operates CRJ-200/700s/900s at OAJ.〔OAJ Airport Director〕 US Airways Express operated by PSA Airlines operates CRJ-100/200s and CRJ 700s. US Airways Express operated by Air Wisconsin Airlines operates CRJ 200s. US Airways Express operated by Mesa Airlines operates CRJ 900s out of OAJ. Ellis Airport covers an area of at an elevation of 94 feet (29 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 5/23 with an asphalt surface measuring 7,100 by 150 feet (2,164 x 46 m).〔 For the 12-month period ending May 31, 2014, the airport had 39,262 aircraft operations, an average of 107 per day: 53% general aviation, 22% scheduled commercial, 19% military, and 6% air taxi. At that time there were 24 aircraft based at this airport: 81% single-engine and 19% multi-engine.〔〔FAA 5010 Record〕 The Airport is served by a fixed based operator, (Jacksonville Flying Service ) who offers fueling, maintenance, flight instruction and aircraft rentals. In 2013 the Airport began construction on a 2-story 67,000 sf replacement passenger terminal building. The new terminal will feature passenger loading bridges, new concessions, expanded passenger areas and space for additional airlines. This is part of the Airport's $50M Terminal Area Redevelopment Program.
